Chester Paddle Board Festival - A Charity Fun Paddle Boarding Event

The Day

What to Expect

The Events

Starting and finishing at the Bandstand at the Groves.  Fun games on the water and optional fancy dress with prizes!  £10 entry fee -all proceeds go to local charities.

Participants will paddle as far as St Paul’s Church and back (a total of approximately 1.2 miles) with some fun games along the way! Fancy dress is optional. £10 entry per board- all proceeds go to local charities.

Open to all paddle boarders - please note that under 16’s must be supervised by an adult on the water.


Local snack bars will be open.


Recommended parking at the Little Roodee car park CH1 1SL (charges apply)

For spectators there is a short walk to the finish line at the Groves down by the river CH1 1SD.

Contingency Plans

Contingency Plans

If the conditions on the day of the event are such that it cannot safely commence or continue, the Event Coordinator may decide to suspend or cancel the event. Such reasons can include:

  • Poor weather
  • River level and flow, including tide and debris
  • Water quality eg sewage release
  • Serious incident on or off water
  • Instruction from the Emergency Services


8am First participants arrive for registration. 8.30am First group of 20 boards will enter the water, followed by another group every 5 minutes.

The events will finish on the water at 11am with a presentation ceremony at the Bandstand at the Groves afterwards.

Other River Users

Participants will be made aware at the commencement of their activities that the river remains open to other users who may not necessarily be aware of the event.


Boats from the Chester Motor Boat Club will patrol the buoyed course during the events. Safety boats will be in communication with the Event Coordinator. St John's Ambulance will also be in attendance.


Existing toilet facilities at the Groves will be utilised.

Parking is at The Little Roodee Car Park  CH1 1SL,  a 5 minute walk to the start of the Event at the Groves. 

Participants may be dropped off at the Groves, but there are very few parking spaces.
